Finally, I have listened to Metallica’s newest album, Death Magnetic. And I find myself forced to say Metallica is back.

I thought of giving a detailed review of the whole album and all the songs, but then again I do not want to ruin it for those who have not yet listened to it.

In general, the album contained all the styles from their previous albums. In songs like That Was Just Your Life and All Nightmare Long, you get Master of Puppets kind of playing. In other songs you get Load/ReLoad kind of style.

The highlight of the album is with no doubt, The Unforgiven III. When it comes to this particular song I find myself puzzled a bit.

The music is just amazing throughout the whole song, the lyric is not bad, and you get a beautiful interlude that is no less good. But the song has nothing to do with its two ancestors. Nonetheless, the song is Metallica.

Remains, my favorite two songs are: The Day That Never Comes and The Unforgiven III.

One last thing, I am really thrilled to see the genuine Metallica’s Logo.

Ladies and gentelmen, MetallicA is back.

I could not believe it when I first saw this on Naser’s Blog, Smokes Blow.

You might find this quiet a strange wish, but for as long as I can remember, my wish was to have a voice just like the voice in the movie trailer/preview.

I was really impressed with the voice, so strong, so deep. Regardless of the movie itself, the preview always sounded better. Countless times I used to imitate the voice, even go a bit far and create my own movies just to say the trailer; but of course those attempts never went outside the bathroom.

This incredible voice belonged to a gifted guy, Don LaFontaine.

Don died last Monday at the age of 68 from complications in the treatment of an ongoing illness. May his soul rest in peace.

I will leave you with this short movie about him, but for what is worth, I will never stop reciting trailers.

Death Magnetic is the long awaited album by Metallica. Their 9th studio album, second album with their bassist, Robert Trujillo, and the first with their producer, Rick Rubin.

I think I speak for the most when I say Metallica technically died after their Black Album in 1991, officially died after S&M in 1999. Had they retired after S&M, they would have reserved a place as one of the immortals Gods of Rock. Unfortunately, they did not.

Almost four years after S&M came the long awaited album, St. Anger.

S&M placed Metallica on the summit, as a result, everyone was anxious for anything new by Metallica, that was logical. But what was not logical, their album, St. Anger. Not only it was completely empty of Metallica style, but also did not contain one guitar solo! Everyone was disappointed.

Anyway, I am not here to talk about St. Anger, I am here to talk about Death Magnetic.

Is choosing Death Magnetic as a name an attempt to re-live the days of their first album, Kill’em All? That question is only asked because we know that Metallica’s albums held strong names—excluding the first album—as Master of Puppets, And Justice for All, and so on. But Death Magnetic sounds like an album for one of the new-boys-on-the-block kind of bands, not Metallica. However, one should clearly note the names of the tracks.

1. This Was Just Your Life – Not so strong, more like appealing.
2. The End of the Line – Sounds more like a movie title.
3. Broken, Beat & Scarred – Too obvious, again, not so Metallica.
4. The Day That Never Comes – Definitely Metallica.
5. All Nightmare Long -  Brilliant.
6. Cyanide – Suits a Death Metal band more.
7. The Unforgiven III – Nothing to say here. Cannot wait for it.
8. The Judas Kiss – I will say it is a good name.
9. Suicide & Redemption – More alternative.
10. My Apocalypse – Did not like it.

But you cannot judge a book by its cover they say, and so to talk about the actual music.

I have heard 3 songs so far: Cyanide, My Apocalypse, and The Day That Never Comes.

Regarding Cyanide and My Apocalypse, I will be frank here. Both songs simply suck. What is it with the weak lyrics? For Gods’ sake, they are not even songs in my books. The music is just not good, Metallica standards. What happened to the great pieces such as To Live is To Die? Or The Call of Ktulu? Such a disappointment.

As for The Day That Never comes, it is worth looking into. The whole song reminded me of Low Man’s Lyric, and a part of it, The Unforgiven II. The lyric is okay, too obvious, but okay. Music wise, the guitar solos are good, ending solo is also good; I mean it is good to hear Kirk kicking in again. All in all, I liked it.

At the end, I cannot fully review the album before September 12th, 2008. Until then, let us keep hoping for the best.

My grandmother’s death sat so many things differently. In a way, it opened my eyes to many things I have never noticed before.

- They say that you will find out who are your real friends in times of need, or in a way, you will know the people who really care about you in times of need. Sadly, I found out that I have none.

- My grandmother’s sole wish was to be around all her family before she passes away. In two weeks or so, all the family will be brought together for the first time ever, ironically, because of my grandmother’s death.

- Death is a hard thing to deal with. Some of the family dealt with it just fine. Others are still having a hard time accepting the fact she is gone. I guess they will move on, eventually.

Sunday was my last day of school. People, I have finally graduated. It feels good I guess. But in a way I do not feel that excited about the whole thing, not that I will miss school—God knows how much I hated it and hated everything there—but I guess it is the fact that now there will be no more fooling around… Apply for jobs, plan for the future and so on. But honestly, the timing could not be worse.

So Ramadan is coming… Okay I have to say I hate it. Not that I hate Ramadan itself, or the fasting in it; what I really hate about it is the atmosphere. I mean people will stop working, they will stop being productive, and they blame it on Ramadan. Give me a break, not eating for a couple of hours is not a reason for you to sleep all day long, or just stop breathing until you eat. And it is not a reason for you to be on edge all day long.

Okay maybe it is a bit more than a couple of hours, they are 14 hours. I guess it will be a bit hard spending 14 hours without smoking.

Oh well, all in all Ramadan is good.

One last thing. People, I am trying to change my theme to a whole new one, but I am having a hard time with CSS coding… All right I know nothing in CSS coding. Never mind.

Last night, me and my friends, had to say goodbye to one of our closest friend, more like a brother. He left for good and coming back to Jordan is a fat chance for him.

So there we were, just a couple of guys having dinner, laughing, making jokes here and there, just like any other day… Up until 1:30 A.M. when things took a different turn.

We realized that we will not be able to drive him to the airport the next morning, and we figured that this is it, this is the end. Everyone stood there quiet, faces pale, looking at the ground. At that moment I realized that you will never be ready for that moment no matter how much you thought of it.

Anyway, our friend broke the silence and we hugged him with the usual: “Deer balak 3ala 7alak, towsal bil salameh o ma tensa teb3atelna.” Until he reached the last one of us, and suddenly both of them broke down and started crying, some of the other could not hold it and teared a bit. Honestly it was so sad.

Then we left without saying a word, honestly none of us had the power to say a damned thing. On our way home he sent us all an emotional message, and another one this morning saying: “Sam7ooni iza 3omri gassaret ma3akom aw ‘3letet bi 7agkom“…

I do not know why I am telling you this, I guess I need to let it out a way or another…

It is such a shame to end 8 years just like that…
